The Department of Genetics and Animal Breeding is an active component of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science at the Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur-5200, Bangladesh. The areas like genetics, breeding, reproduction, molecular biology, biotechnology, and biometry constitute the discipline of Genetics and Animal Breeding. The Genetics and Animal Breeding expert utilizes the differences and resemblance among the individuals as a tool for breeding goals to meet selection targets. With the application of quantitative genetics and molecular genetics, a breeder aims to improve the performance of next generations based on available pedigree and performance records.
The mission of the Department of Genetics and Animal Breeding is to conserve the native animal genetic resources, enhance the reproductive & productive potential of farm animals through appropriate breeding plans and modernized reproductive technologies. The Department of Genetics and Animal Breeding aims to impart education at undergraduate, MS, and Ph.D. levels and conducting research both of basic and applied nature in the discipline of genetics and animal breeding.
The department has a group of highly qualified faculties specialized in different areas of genetics and animal breeding. The department offers 2 (two) courses to the undergraduate students of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and has also been offering MS and Ph.D. degrees since its establishment. The department provides hands-on training to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the advanced animal research facility and well-equipped laboratory. Furthermore, access to the latest equipment in our advanced Animal Biotechnology Laboratory will give extra advantages for the upcoming researchers.
The specialized faculty, world-class course content, unique facilities, and warm work environment make us an outstanding choice for furthering a career in Genetics and Animal Breeding.Veterinary education is the tertiary education of veterinarians. To become a veterinarian, one must first complete a veterinary degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM , V.M.D. , BVS, BVSc, BVMS, BVM, cand.med.vet).
In the United States and Canada, almost all veterinary medical degrees are first entry degrees, and require several years of previous study at the university level. Many veterinary schools outside North America use the title "Faculty of Veterinary Science" instead of "College of Veterinary Medicine" or "School of Veterinary Medicine", and some veterinary schools in China, Japan and South Korea (such as the DVM degree-awarding Department of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry at Guangxi University in China and the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology use the term "Department".[1]) Veterinary schools are distinct from departments of animal science offering a pre-veterinary curriculum, teaching the biomedical sciences (and awarding a Bachelor of Science degree or the equivalent), and providing graduate veterinary education in disciplines such as microbiology, virology, and molecular biology.
